Tavi Popaluca begins his third season as an assistant coach with the UC San Diego men’s tennis program in 2014-15. He had been a volunteer assistant with the UCSD men's squad since September of 2011.
Popaluca began his coaching career in 1995 at the Cathedral Canyon Golf & Tennis Club in Palm Springs. Following two years at Cathedral Canyon, he was named the Director of Tennis at the Century City Tennis Club and then moved on to become the Assistant Director of Tennis at The Vintage Club in Indian Wells.
Playing tennis since the age of six, Popaluca's many accomplishments include Junior Davis Cup experience, an ATP Tour world ranking and a college state championship. He has played alongside Jim Courier and was coached by Jose Higueras.
In 2006, Popaluca started his own practice as an agent with New York Life Insurance Company.
Popaluca earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from UC Riverside.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his children, Kassia and Ronin, who he has already started to instill his love of tennis in.
