Gur was previously a five-year media relations employee at San Jose State University from 2005-10. He served as an assistant sports information director after August of 2006, having spent 2005-06 as a sports information assistant with the Spartans. He was the primary contact for the Spartan men's and women's soccer, women's swimming and diving and baseball teams, while also assisting with the men's basketball and football programs.

Gur is a 1998 graduate of UC San Diego who double majored in economics and political science. He worked as an assistant sports information director at UC San Diego for six years upon completion of his degree requirements, the final two as the interim sports information director of the 23-sport NCAA Division II program.

Born in the capital city of Ankara in his native Turkey, Gur grew up in Palo Alto. He is a 1994 graduate of Palo Alto High School, where he played soccer for three years.
