ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - In a battle of nationally-ranked California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) women's soccer foes, No. 17 UC San Diego played to a scoreless draw with No. 13 Sonoma State on Friday afternoon at Seawolf Soccer Field.

With the result, UC San Diego moves to 7-1-2 overall and 6-1-2 in the CCAA. Sonoma State goes to 9-1-1 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play. The teams continue to lead the South and North Division standings, respectively.

"This was a good result, on the road, against maybe as good a team as we've faced all year," said UCSD head coach Brian McManus following the match. "After a disappointing weekend at home, our players came back and really stepped their games up. We controlled the ball for the most part, but (Sonoma State) has so much speed. Overall, a solid team performance."

In a scoreless first half of play, the home side outshot the Tritons, 7-4, with four on target to just two by UCSD.

The stalemate continued through the second 45-minute stanza, with Sonoma State coming closest to denting the scoreline from a Sara Studer shot in the 87th minute that came back off the crossbar.

The teams headed into overtime, with Seawolf goalkeeper Alexis Sciacqua and Triton counterpart Kelcie Brodsky forced to make a pair of saves within a 37-second span of the second and final 10-minute sudden victory period. That sequence was followed by a Sonoma State flurry at the finish, with JJ McFarlin and teammate Gretel Amman each having attempts blocked away by UCSD defenders before one final effort by McFarlin went high of the frame over the last 85 ticks.

Brodsky finished with eight saves in goal for UCSD, with Sciacqua making seven stops for the Seawolves. The clean sheet marked the fifth of the season for Brodsky, a true freshman from Agoura Hills.

Sonoma State outshot the Tritons on the day, 23-13.

UCSD remains in the northern end of the state to face Humboldt State on Sunday, Oct. 7. Kick-off on Senior Day at College Creek Field in Arcata is slated for 11:30 a.m.
