ANAHEIM, Calif. - Daisy Feder scored a career-high 28 points, but it wasn't enough as the No. 8 UC San Diego women's basketball team was edged, 64-62, by 13th-ranked Grand Canyon Saturday afternoon at the Anaheim Convention Center. It was the second of three games for UCSD at Disney's Tip-Off West Coast Classic tournament.

Two free throw shots by GCU's Deanna Daniels put the Antelopes up 64-60 with just 11 seconds remaining in the game. On the next possession, UCSD missed a jumper but ended up with the offensive rebound. Megan Perry then hit a shot to get the Tritons within two, but it came with just one tick left on the clock.

"I really thought that we competed," said first-year UCSD head coach Heidi VanDerveer. "I think our effort was great, I think that our energy was great and we competed - those are three things that if we do every night, while our offense and our defense are evolving, will really pay dividends in the end."

UCSD (0-2) had a nine-point lead early in the first half and was ahead 32-29 at the break. However, the Tritons' shooting percentage dropped from 39.1% in the opening half to 31.4% in the second frame.

At 12:37 of the second half, Grand Canyon (1-1) tied it at 42 on a layup by Chigozie Ekweozor. A free throw by Jasmine Cannon gave the Antelopes a 43-42 lead and they would not trail again.

UCSD tied the game for the final time at 47-47 when Feder made a free throw with 8:56 remaining.

Feder's point toal put her above 1,000 for her career. She entered the season with 966 points and tallied 19 in yesterday's opener vs. Gannon. Feder was 6-for-16 from the floor, which included four three-point shots. She also made good on 12 of 14 free throw attempts and equaled a career-best with nine rebounds.

Erin Dautremont chipped in with 12 points and five boards for UCSD, while center Dana Webster had 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting.

"I thought Daisy (Feder) really stepped up big time as did Erin (Dautremont) and Dana (Webster)," said VanDerveer. "Those three I thought were very aggressive."

The Antelopes were paced by Judy Jones, who had a team-high 17 points while adding five rebounds and three assists. Ekweozor finished with 12 points and seven rebounds and Daniels totaled 11 points, nine of those coming at the free throw line.

UCSD concludes play at the Disney tournament Sunday when it faces off against Simon Fraser at 8:30 p.m. The game will be covered by live video/audio and live stats.
