INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - UC San Diego women's soccer players Cassie Callahan, Hayley Johnson and Ellen Wilson have been named to Daktronics All-America teams for NCAA Division II women's soccer. Senior Jessica Wi earned All-America honorable mention.
Wilson made the 13-player first team as a first-team All-American, while Johnson is now a two-time Daktronics All-America Second Team selection. Callahan, like Wilson, is a first-time All-American as one of 13 players on the third team. Wi was one of 20 players to pick up honorable mention.
The four players had previously garnered Daktronics All-West Region First Team recognition to advance to the All-America ballot. Wilson, Johnson and Callahan had also just represented UCSD a day earlier on the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team.
Later on Thursday, the quartet helped lead the fifth-ranked Tritons into the title match of the 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship with a 2-1 victory over third-ranked Grand Valley State. UCSD will play second-ranked West Florida on Saturday, Dec. 1, in search of its eighth national crown. Kickoff at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga., is set for 12 p.m. PT.
Johnson, Wi and Wilson have started all 23 matches for UCSD this season, with Callahan only briefly beginning the Tritons' Senior Day match on the bench. Callahan notched her team-leading 10th goal and eighth assist in the match against GVSU. Johnson (4 G, 6 A) and Wilson (3 G) have both also contributed offensively in addition to being fixtures along the Triton back line. Wi has provided four goals and seven assists from her spot on the right wing.
