LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego fell in the final game of the three-game series vs. Boston College, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Triton Softball Field.
Â
UC San Diego drops to 7-12 while the Eagles improve to 11-7.
Â
At the plate, the Tritons were led by
Clarissa Reynoso who was 2-for-2 with one walk.
Deena Pederson added her support going 1-for-2 with a walk and hit by pitch. The shortstop scored one of two runs.
Morgan Eng was also 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base.
Keila Bosinger and
Mikaila Pancino both tallied a sac bunt with Bosinger tallying two.
Â
Tossing her third complete game of the season,
Gabby Williams tossed 102 pitches forcing 13 groundouts and four fly outs. The lefty pitcher had three strikeouts with two walks and three runs on three hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jumping on the board first, Boston College brought two runners home in the top. UC San Diego responded in the bottom with a single run.
Â
Lacing a single at the pitcher,
Deena Pederson became the lead runner for the gold and blue in the bottom of the first.
Bobbi Aguirre then powered a single up the middle to advance Pederson and get on first. With a sac fly,
Gabby Williams advanced both runners. Drawing the throw from the catcher, Aguirre put herself in a rundown situation, allowing Pederson to steal home and score before getting tagged.
Â
Â
Both teams remained scoreless in the second and third innings. Williams retired six of the seven Eagles in those two innings, walking one.
Â
In the fourth, BC tacked on another run but so did the Tritons. On a leadoff double from Williams, the Tritons had a runner in scoring position with no outs.
Kelley Renner came in as a pinch runner for Williams. On sac bunt from
Mikaila Pancino, Renner advanced to third.
Marissa Hassis stepped up with a suicide squeeze to plate Renner and reach. Two more Tritons were able to get on but were unable to cash in.
Â
Â
A double play in the bottom of the fifth cut the Tritons' rally short. In the sixth, UC San Diego was walked twice on two outs to get the winning runner on first. Once again, the Tritons left runners stranded as the third out came.
Â
Leading the seventh off with a single to right center on a 1-2 count,
Morgan Eng became the tying run for the Tritons. Another sac bunt from Bosinger put Eng on second. Pederson was walked by the Eagles' pitching staff. With the winning run on first and a single out, the Tritons fell to Boston College as a foul out and a strikeout punched the final two outs of the game.
