CARSON, Calif. ? The UC San Diego women's basketball team completed the season sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills with a 68-56 win on Saturday evening in the Torodome on the CSUDH campus. UCSD handed CSUDH a 67-52 loss in RIMAC Arena earlier this season on January 20.
With the win the Tritons improve to 21-4 overall and 15-3 in CCAA play while dropping the Toros to 13-11 overall and 8-10 in league action.
UCSD was led on the evening by Leora Juster who had 26 points and five rebounds in the win. Hillary Hansen added 14 points and nine rebounds while Briana Hinga had 11 points, seven boards, five assists, three blocks and one steal.
The Tritons trailed by a 10-8 score with just under 17 minutes to go in the first half before going on a 13-0 run over the next six minutes to build an 11-point lead that it would never relinquish.
The Toros, who trailed by nine at halftime, managed to cut the UCSD lead down to one point at 48-47 with 7:09 to go in the game, could never re-take the lead as the Tritons went on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to extend the lead back up to nine with 4:58 to play.
Tameka Blue led the CSUDH offense with 22 points. Alana Bailey was next on the team with eight while Knnisha Kyles added six points and nine boards.
UCSD never let the lead get below five points the rest of the way en route to its 15th league win of the season. The Tritons enter the final weekend of play in a tie for second place with Cal State Bakersfield, just one game behind league leader Chico State.
Head coach Janell Jones and her team will conclude the 2005-06 regular season at home next weekend, hosting San Francisco State on Friday night and Sonoma State on Saturday evening. Both games are slated for 5:30 p.m. tip-offs.
