ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The UC San Diego women's water polo team lost two games at the Michigan Invitational on the final day, losing by a 15-6 score to No. 6 San Jose State despite three goals by
Stephanie Heinrich. In the second match-up of the day, the Tritons led early against No. 3 UCLA, but lost 10-4 to wrap-up the Invitational. UCSD led the Bruins 2-1 after the first quarter and trailed by just one goal at halftime, but UCLA pulled away in the second half. Heinrich added two goals while
Audra Bloom and
Kirsten Bates also scored. UCSD is back in action on February 6-7 when it hosts the Triton Invitational at Canyonview Pool.
In the 15-6 loss to San Jose State, the Spartans jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and a 10-3 lead at halftime. UCSD won the third period, holding SJSU to just one score while scoring two of its own. SJSU added four more scores in the fourth to just one goal for UCSD. Heinrich scored three times while Audra Bloom, Stephanie Bocian and Kim McComas also scored.
SJSU was paced by Adriana Vogt with four goals and Megan Lane with three scores.
Against UCLA, the Tritons led 2-1 after the first quarter and trailed 4-3 at halftime. The Bruins outscored the Tritons 6-1 in the second half.
