BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -The 20th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team finished the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunner Invitational II with two more victories to go 4-0 at the tournament. On Sunday, the Tritons scored 10 of the game's first 12 goals against Sonoma State and cruised to the 15-6 victory.
Kirsten Bates scored a career-high seven goals to pace UCSD. In the second game, the Tritons got four goals from
Jessica Tran as UCSD led 8-2 at halftime against Cal State San Bernardino. The Tritons would go on to defeat the Coyotes by an 11-5 score. UCSD improves to 11-14, winners of nine of its last 11 games.
In the win against Sonoma State, Bates scored two goals in the first, one in the second and one in the third. Bates then scored three more times in the fourth period. UCSD led 6-1 at halftime and scored nine more goals in the second half in the 15-6 win. Tran and Hanalei Crowell scored twice each while Stephanie Heinrich, Audra Bloom and Stephanie Bocian also scored.
Markayla Quane made 11 saves in three quarters while Allie Taylor saw action in the fourth period with one save.
Against CSUSB, the Tritons scored eight first-half goals and led 8-2 at halftime. Tran scored four goals, while Bates and Felicia Orozco scored two goals each. Crowell, Heinrich and Stephanie Sasaki also scored.
Quane had nine first half saves while Taylor had four saves in the second half.
UCSD is back in action on Saturday, April 3 when it hosts Cal State San Bernardino at 10:00 a.m. and Brown at 4:00 p.m. Both games will take place at Canyonview Pool. Also on Saturday, Brown will take on CSUSB at 1:00 p.m.
