No. 22 UCSD Upends Stanislaus State 88-81 in Overtime

LA JOLLA, Calif. – The 22nd-ranked UC San Diego women's basketball team outscored Stanislaus State 19-12 in overtime to win 88-81 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup Saturday at RIMAC Arena.

With the win the Tritons improve to 20-3 overall and 15-2 in conference play. The Warriors drop to 14-8 overall and 10-6 in the CCAA.

Senior forward Farrah Shokoor and senior guard Jamie Katuna led UCSD with a game co-high 21 points. Shokoor picked up her 13th double-double of the season with a game-high 17 rebounds. Junior guard Beth Mounier pitched in 19 for the Tritons.

Stanislaus State was led by Reana Hardin, Riley Holladay and Cassidy Sanders-Curry who had 17, 16 and 14 points, respectively.

The Warriors jumped out to a 7-2 advantage, their biggest lead of the game, to start. Down by one, the Tritons took the lead, 22-20, on a three-pointer from freshman guard Joleen Yang with 13 seconds left in the opening quarter.

UCSD opened the margin to seven points, twice, in the second period. Stanislaus State battled back and evened the score, 35-35. With 53 seconds remaining before the intermission, Mounier buried a basket as the Tritons went into halftime up, 37-35.

The Tritons grabbed a five-point advantage, 47-42, after a layup from junior guard Haley Anderson in the third frame. The Warriors cut the lead down to one, 49-48, after two free throws.

Ana Burch gave Stanislaus State the lead, 50-49, with the first score of the fourth period. The Warriors opened up to a four-point lead, 60-56, after a trey from Hardin and a layup from Taylor Faucett. The Tritons battled back and went up by five, 67-62, after six consecutive points from Katuna and two free throws from Shokoor. With UCSD up by three, Hardin buried a shot from behind the arc with 16 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.

The Tritons started overtime with a 13-4 run, capped off by a Shokoor layup, to go up by nine, 82-73 with 1:11 remaining. UCSD hit five free throws down the stretch and made a pair of layups to get the seven-point win.

The Tritons will not have to travel far for their next contest, facing against local-foe Cal State San Marcos in a conference matchup on Thursday, Feb. 18. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
