LA JOLLA, Calif. – The No. 21 University of California San Diego women's basketball team cruised to a 91-58 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills at RIMAC Arena tonight. The Tritons' 91 points are their most in a single game this season.
With the victory, UC San Diego improves to 19-4 on the season and 15-3 in conference action. The Toros fall to 10-13 overall and 7-10 in league play. The Tritons stretch their winning streak to 11 while remaining in first place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Tritons came out strong from the start. UC San Diego shot 50% in the first quarter (11-22) and 56% from beyond the arc (5-9) while holding Cal State Dominguez Hills to just seven points.
It was more of the same from the Tritons in the second quarter. UC San Diego knocked down 53% of its shots (9-17) and held a 52-23 advantage going into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, UC San Diego remained in control throughout the third quarter. The Tritons put up 26 points and dominated defensively, allowing the Toros to shoot just 18% (3-17).
The Toros were able to cut the deficit in the fourth quarter, but it was too late as the Tritons secured their dominant 91-58 victory.
Many of the Tritons put up impressive individual performances in the win. Four players finished the night with double-digit points.
Tyla Turner led the way with 17 points. Turner knocked down half her shots (5-10) and was perfect at the free throw line (4-4).
Sydney Sharp and
Brianna Claros followed with 15 points apiece. Sharp hit a milestone in the win, as her first 3-pointer of the game brought her to 200 in her collegiate career. Finishing the night with four successful shots from long range, Sharp is now tied with
Joleen Yang for third in program history with 204.
Claros also contributed 15 points in the victory. Claros' mark was a new season high and just one shy of her career best.
Rounding out the double-digit Triton scorers was
Julia Macabuhay, who chipped in 11 points. Macabuhay was the game's assists leader, as she recorded eight, more than the entire Toro team combined.
Emily Cangelosi was the Tritons' rebound leader. Cangelosi recorded a new career high on the night, as she collected eight rebounds.
A pair of freshmen nabbed their first collegiate points on the night.
Hanna Beckman picked up her first points of her collegiate career as she knocked down a shot from long range in the fourth quarter. Beckman finished the evening with five points.
Classmate
Emerson Herrmann also scored her first Triton points as she sent in a layup with 18 seconds to go. Adding a free throw, Herrmann finished with three points.
As a team, the Tritons' defensive performance was an impressive feat. The Toros entered the game averaging 73.7 points per game, leading the conference.

Sydney Sharp, and Pink Night, raising awareness for breast cancer.
