LA JOLLA, Calif.–UC San Diego women's volleyball fell to UC Davis, 3-0, on Friday evening in LionTree Arena.
The Tritons (11-14, 4-9 Big West) dropped their second match of the season to the Aggies (10-13, 5-8 Big West), this time falling in straight sets 25-22, 25-20, 25-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC Davis held the advantage in all statistical categories including blocks (10-6), aces (4-1), assists (41-29), digs (44-34) and hitting percentage (.271-.092.).
Ava McInnes and
Zaria Henderson each tallied eight kills for the Tritons, while
Izzi Strand added five. Defensively,
Emily McDaniel led the team with six blocks, while Henderson finished with eight digs, McInnes added six and
Naya Dong finished with five. Strand also finished with 22 assists.
The teams kept it close to begin the opening set, with UC San Diego leading 8-7 before the Aggies put together a seven-point scoring run. The Tritons continued to battle back and eventually tied the match 20-20 with a 5-1 scoring run of their own. With the set tied 22-all, UCD scored the final three points to take the opening set, 25-22.
UC Davis used an early 5-0 run to take the lead, 11-4, in the second set. The Tritons rallied to within three points but were unable to get any closer, with UCD taking the set, 25-20, and the 2-0 lead in the match.
The Tritons took the early 6-5 lead in set three, before the Aggies took control of the set. UC Davis outscored UC San Diego, 16-2, to build a commanding lead and never looked back, taking the set, 25-12, and the match, 3-0.
TRITON TIDBITS
- The 3-0 loss marked the fourth time the Tritons have been swept this season.
- UC San Diego was held to its lowest hitting percentage (.092) of the season and just the second match hitting under .100. The Tritons were also held to their lowest kill total at 32.
- With the loss, UC San Diego falls to 12-9 in the all-time series with UC Davis and 0-2 this season.
