Tritons Top La Sierra

UC San Diego defeated the Golden Eagles, 94-40, on Wednesday evening

LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego women's basketball defeated La Sierra, 94-40, on Wednesday evening in LionTree Arena. The Tritons (2-2) shot 55 percent from the field with nine three-pointers and four players finished in double-figures.
 
Izzy Forsyth led the team with 20 points, while freshman Erin Condron finished with a career-high 16 points. Denali Pinto added 12 and Sumayah Sugapong finished with 11. Forsyth and Katie Springs led the Tritons with six rebounds apiece and Gracie Gallegos and Damilola Sule added five each.
 
UC San Diego collected 24 assists in the contest, led by Eri Blithikioti with eight and Gallegos with seven. Blithikioti and Gallegos also led the team in steals with four apiece. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego got off to a strong start, with Forsyth hitting a three-pointer in the first five second of the contest. The Tritons extended their lead, 10-0, after seven straight points by Sugapong. Midway through the quarter, UC San Diego put together a seven-point run to build its largest lead of the period, 17-3. The Tritons shot 40 percent from the field and made four threes to lead 22-9 at the end of the first quarter. 
 
The Golden Eagles found a rhythm to open the second period, putting together a seven-point run of their own to cut the lead to single digits, 24-16. The Tritons responded by going on a 11-0 scoring run to extending their lead, 35-16. Forsyth led UC San Diego with 15 points in the first half and the Tritons took a 46-23 lead into the intermission. 
 
The Tritons had their strongest quarter of the game to begin the second half, outscoring La Sierra, 29-8, in the period. UC San Diego put together a nine-point and 15-point scoring run, highlighted by eight points from Condron. The Tritons took a 75-31 lead into the final quarter break.
 
Condron continued to have the hot hand in the fourth quarter, leading the team with six points. The Tritons used a 6-0 run to begin the period and outscored the Golden Eagles 10-2 down the stretch, earning the 94-40 victory.

The Tritons will remain home to play host to Northern Arizona on Sunday at 7 p.m. in LionTree Arena. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with live statistics available via UCSDTritons.com.
