LA JOLLA, Calif. - Wrapping up its four-match home stand Wednesday (Jan. 31), the No. 19 UC San Diego Men's Volleyball team hosts 12th-ranked USC inside LionTree Arena at 7 p.m.

The second half of the home-and-home series is set for Friday (2/2) at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.

The Tritons (2-6) are looking to halt their five-match losing streak. Seven of UC San Diego's eight opponents this season have been nationally-ranked in the top-20. The highest was No. 2 UCLA, which visited LionTree on Jan. 26 and swept the Tritons in front of 2,474 fans, the largest crowd to ever attend a UC San Diego Men's Volleyball match.

Speaking of rankings, the Tritons moved up a spot in Monday's poll, now sitting in 19th after spending last week in the No. 20 position.

The Trojans come in at 6-2 and have gone 1-2 in their last three matches. In their latest action, they swept Central State at the Galen Center in Los Angeles on Jan. 25. Prior to that, USC dropped two-straight against Big West member and 18th-ranked CSUN in five sets as well as No. 4 Ohio State, also in five sets.

SELCHO EARNS BIG WEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOD
Peter Selcho was named the first Big West Men's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week on Jan. 8. A sophomore middle blocker, Selcho was a force at the net, helping the Tritons post a 2-1 record at UC Santa Barbara's season-opening Asics Invitational. Named to the all-tournament team, Selcho recorded a team-high 19 total blocks (1.6/set) and hit .306 (17-6-36) over the three matches. His biggest outing was in a 3-2 win against NJIT. Selcho established career-highs with 12 blocks, eight kills, 14 points, and two digs. He also posted a solid .538 (8-1-13) attack percentage. Two days prior, Selcho kicked off his 2024 season with eight kills in a 3-1 win over 20th-ranked George Mason. He swung at a .429 clip in that contest.

MATTHEW LIM NAMED TO ALL-TOURNEY TEAM IN SANTA BARBARA
Junior outside Matthew Lim was named to the all-tournament team at UC Santa Barbara's Asics Invitational. Over three matches, he averaged 3.4 points/set and 2.7 kills/set while hitting .308 to help the Tritons post a 2-1 record. He started with 11 kills in a win over No. 20 George Mason, followed with nine kills in a loss to No. 7 Grand Canyon, and finished with 10 in a win over NJIT. He also added six blocks, six digs, and four aces.

HEAD COACH BRAD ROSTRATTER
Brad Rostratter enters his second season leading UC San Diego in 2024. He was named head coach of the men's volleyball program on October 7, 2022. Rostratter earned his first career win with the Tritons on Jan. 5, 2023, when the team defeated Lincoln Memorial in five sets at UC Santa Barbara's Asics Invitational. It was the team's season opener. Rostratter collected his first Big West victory on the road at CSUN when the Tritons swept the Matadors on March 16. A National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Coach of the Year and two-time Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) Coach of the Year, Rostratter came to La Jolla from Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, Calif., where he served as the men's volleyball head coach since the program's inception in 2019. The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior.
