LA JOLLA, Calif. -Â The UC San Diego Women's Water Polo Team, ranked ninth in the country, continues Big West play this weekend as the Tritons travel to the San Fernando Valley Saturday to take on No. 22 CSUN.
UC San Diego comes in with a 13-12 overall record and an even 2-2 mark in the Big West. In their last outing, the Tritons dropped a 13-11 conference decision at Long Beach State.
CSUN holds a 16-10 record and has gone 1-4 in Big West games thus far. The Matadors won their most recent game, a 12-6 topping of Cal State Fullerton. Saturday's game will be CSUN's Senior Day at Matador Pool.
The last time the Tritons and Matadors met was in a quarterfinal game at the 2024 Big West Championship, which was hosted by UC Davis. UC San Diego rolled to an 18-11 victory backed by hat tricks from

KREUTZKAMPÂ HITS MILESTONE
In his 16th season leading the Tritons,
Brad Kreutzkamp, the program's winningest coach, hit a major career milestone on Jan. 31. A 16-15 sudden victory overtime triumph against Arizona State in La Jolla was his 300th career win at UC San Diego. He came into the 2025 season with 296 wins.

MAKANAÂ FAKE WINS COLLEGIATE DEBUT
Freshman goalie
Makana Fake saw her first collegiate action on March 15 against Michigan at Canyonview Aquatic Center. She played all 32 minutes en route to winning her debut contest, 13-12. Fake made four saves and grabbed three steals in the victory.

HEAD COACH BRAD KREUTZKAMP
Brad Kreutzkamp is currently in his 16th season as head coach of the UC San Diego women's water polo program in 2025. Kreutzkamp has led UC San Diego to eight Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) championships and eight appearances at the NCAA Championship. Kreutzkamp has been named the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC)Â and WWPA Coach of the Year five times during his career. On Jan. 31, 2025, he hit a major milestone by earning his 300th career win - a 16-15 sudden victory overtime win against Arizona State in La Jolla.Â

Four-time ACWPC All-America First Team honoree and two-time NCAA Division II Player of the Year Sarah Lizotte rejoined the team this season as an assistant coach. As a player for
Brad Kreutzkamp between 2011 and 2014, Lizotte is UC San Diego's all-time leader in goals (321), assists (176), and shots (758).

After 20 seasons playing as an NCAA Division II team, the entire athletics program has completed a four-year transition to NCAA Division I, culminating in full DI status as a member of theÂ

WHY THE TRITONS?
The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior. Given UC San Diego's close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its connections with the world-famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Triton became our mascot in 1964.
About UC San Diego Athletics
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 84 Tritons have earned Academic All-America honors, while 38 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships.
