Big West Honors Tibor for Second Consecutive Week

LA JOLLA, Calif. – For the second time in as many weeks, UC San Diego forward Ava Tibor has been named The Big West Freshman of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.

Tibor scored two more goals – one coming on a penalty kick – as the Tritons downed UNLV, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon. Tibor's brace is already her second of the young season in just three matches played. Her four goals scored are twice as many as anyone else in The Big West, and she is also tops in the conference with eight points through the season's first two weeks.

Of seven braces by a Triton in UC San Diego's Division I era (2021-present), Tibor now boasts two of those seven.

Tibor is one of three current Tritons to earn Big West Freshman of the Week accolades since UC San Diego joined the conference in 2021. Teammates Alexis Nguyen (2023, twice) and Allie Luo (2022) have also captured the weekly freshman honor.

UC San Diego (1-1-1) hits the road for the first time Saturday but won't have to travel far. The Tritons will take on San Diego State at Snapdragon Stadium in a 7 p.m. kick on Aug. 30. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster via promo code UCSD.
